SALE United tested Gippsland Soccer League leader Churchill United but was unable to return home with the points.
The only side to have defeated the Rams this season, the Swans had chances in attack, but a Paul Riess goal from the penalty spot after an infringement on the edge of the box late in the first half was enough to give the home side victory.
With the goal, Riess returned to lead the scorers’ list in his own right, with 19.
The Swans are in fifth position following Fortuna’s 1-0 win against Newborough-Yallourn United.
Second-placed Moe United kept the premiership race alive by winning a tight encounter against local rival Monash 2-1.
Traralgon City had a 3-2 win over Tyers at home.
On Saturday, Falcons increased its unbeaten run to four matches with a 5-2 win over Traralgon Olympians. The teams went into the break 1-1 before a busy second half featuring five goals.
ONE point outside the top four, Sale United will host seventh-placed Traralgon City this Sunday.
Also on Sunday, fourth-placed Fortuna will host third-placed Monash, Falcons will head to Moe, and Newborough-Yallourn will host Tyers in the battle between the bottom two sides.
Eight points ahead of Moe with three rounds remaining, Churchill can seal the premiership with victory against Olympians on Saturday night.
