Maffra wins tight women’s match

IN a tight match between the third and fourth on the East Gippsland women’s hockey ladder, Maffra held on to defeat Nagle 1-0.

Ainsley Butcher provided the visitor with the winning goal.

Conditions were cold and blustery for round 12 across the district.

Swan Reach had a solid 5-1 victory at Bairnsdale.

Sarah Whitechurch scored two goals, while Jude Lunny, Shana Snell and Beck Corben added one goal each. Tarryn Haylock replied for Bairnsdale.

Top team Sale dominated Wellington at home to win 12-0. Emily Carrolan scored six goals, Julia Lee two with one each from Andie Christie, Kate Hamilton, Sarah Boag and Mikayla Colley.

DISPLAYING an attractive team game, Nagle leaped to top of the men’s ladder after defeating Maffra 10-0.

Ren Crunden-Smith scored five goals, Jack Pawata and Bryan Smith two each, and Chas Newcomen one.

Swan Reach continued its good form to defeat Bairnsdale 3-1 in a tight match. Swan Reach’s goals were scored by M. Cunningham, M. Tong, and J. Knight with Eddie Long scoring for Bairnsdale.

Sale defeated Wellington 9-0. Jason Slattery scored four goals, while Adam Slattery, Andie Christie, Tim Dunnett, Chetan Kanda and Jake Tobigama scored one goal each.

THIS Saturday, Bairnsdale will host Maffra, Orbost travels to Wellington, and Sale hosts Swan Reach. Nagle will have the bye.
