SALE United has advanced to the final of the Gippsland Soccer League’s Battle of Britain Cup after a 2-1 semi-final win against Fortuna.
Dean Nicholls and Jon Piefke scored for the Swans, while Jamie Pistrin scored for the home side on Sunday.
The final will be played on Sunday, September 8 against Churchill United, who defeated Moe United 3-1 in the other semi-final on Saturday night.
Scores were level 1-1 at half-time before the Rams took control of the match with two more goals to keep on track of a clean sweep of the senior trophies. The Rams are set to confirm the league championship this weekend and will be favourite to claim the premiership by winning the grand final.
IT’S back to the home-and-away season this weekend for the penultimate round before the finals.
Sale United will be looking to consolidate its place in the seniors top four when it travels to Tyers this Sunday to play the bottom-placed Lightning.
Also on Sunday, Newborough-Yallourn will host Monash and Traralgon City will host Olympians in a local derby.
On Saturday night, Falcons will play Fortuna in the Morwell derby, while Churchill, on top by five points, can claim the championship with one game to spare with victory against second-placed Moe.
