SALE completed an unbeaten home-and-away season in Gippsland League netball with a 49-31 win at home against Morwell on Saturday.
Magpies coach Mel Johnston was pleased with the side’s fighting win against the third-placed Tigers.
Johnston said tough matches against Maffra, Drouin and Morwell, were just what the Magpies needed to prepare for the finals.
The Tigers used a different game plan in defence to try and limit the scoring chances of shooters Ella Bertacchini and Lara Dunkley. It worked early with Sale struggling to get a clear break, only leading 11-9 at quarter-time.
Five minutes into the second term, the home side led 16-13 with the Tigers playing well before the Magpies broke the shackles with a brilliant burst of netball, scoring 10 goals to one. The Magpies led 26-14 at half-time before going on to win 49-31.
The Magpies’ A grade side will be joined in the finals by all three of their junior teams.
MAFFRA finished its A grade season on a high with a 41-21 win at Warragul on Saturday.
The Eagles finished in sixth place, six points behind fifth-placed Drouin.
Maffra will be represented in the netball finals in B grade and all three junior grades.
IN other A grade games, Bairnsdale finished its season with a 50-26 win at Moe, Leongatha consolidated second place with a 61-45 victory over Traralgon, and Wonthaggi defeated Drouin 66-62 with the two sides to meet again this Sunday in the elimination final.
