SALE advanced to the East Gippsland women’s hockey grand final after winning a tight second semi-final against Swan Reach.
Julia Lee scored the goal which separated the Sale and Swan Reach.
All semi-finals were played on Saturday in fine conditions at Bairnsdale.
Maffra survived a penalty shoot-out to remain in the finals and set-up a preliminary final against Swan Reach.
In the first semi-final, Maffra and Nagle were level at 1-1 after normal time. Kate O’Toole scored for Maffra and Holly Bowden scored for Nagle.
The two teams then played a penalty shoot-out to decide the match, which Maffra won 4-3. Caitlin Frisina, Kate Ingram, Sharon Mogridge and Kate Steinmann scored for Maffra, while Nagle’s scorers were Annelise Allen, Jordan Bartlett and Megan Brill.
NAGLE won a penalty shoot-out against Orbost to move into the men’s grand final.
The top two teams were unable to score in normal time of the second semi-final before Nagle won the penalty shoot-out 4-3. Lachlan Bartlett, Oscar Crunden-Smith, Ben Howden and Sam Parwata scored for Nagle, with Jason Lavell, Ash Jonkers and Craig Martin scoring for Orbost.
In the first semi, Swan Reach ended Sale’s season with a 2-0 victory. Toby Anderson and Damien Snell scored the goals.
IN the under 18s, Orbost held on to defeat Maffra 3-2 after an absorbing knock-out semi-final.
Nagle advanced to the grand final after defeating Bairnsdale 5-0 in the second semi-final.
BAIRNSDALE showed it is a class ahead of the rest of the under 15 competition with a 9-0 second semi-final win over Maffra.
In the first semi, Nagle eliminated Sale with a 5-1 win.
THE top two teams in the under 13 played an exciting second semi-final with Nagle scoring the winning goal in the final three minutes.
Nagle defeated Maffra 2-1 to advance to the grand final.
Bairnsdale scored a solid win over Sale 4-0 in the first semi-final.
THE preliminary finals will be played at Stephenson Park, Sale on Saturday.
Orbost and Swan Reach will play in the men’s, while Maffra will take on Swan Reach in the women’s.
The under 18s match will be between Bairnsdale and Orbost, while Maffra will play in the under 15s and 13s against Nagle and Bairnsdale respectively.
