Gulls, Pies go for glory

PAYNESVILLE and Lucknow will fight it out for the East Gippsland football premiership at Bairnsdale City Oval on Saturday, with the Magpies gunning for back-to-back flags.

Very little separates the two sides, who have arguably been the form sides of the competition in season 2013.

Paynesville have had the edge on the Magpies, leading the season 2013 ledger three-one including a four-goal second semi-final win to propel the Gulls straight through to the decider.

But the Gulls will meet a Lucknow outfit hungry to go back-to-back, with the Magpies proving they can match it with the Gulls in round 18, coming away with a hard fought two-point victory to ensure it finished the home-and-away season on top of the table.

Both sides boast a strong midfield and forward line, and it could come down to which defence can hold up best.

Former local players Gary Jones and Brenton Martin will line-up for the Magpies, while Damien Ashcroft will feature for the Gulls.
