RELATED: Heartbreak for Heyfield
FIVE goals from best-on-ground Nathan Wellins helped Heyfield claim the North Gippsland reserves football premiership with a 21-point grand final win over Traralgon-Tyers United.
A four-goal to two final term guaranteed the victory after what had been a tight goal for goal tussle. The Kangaroos won 12.13 (85) to 10.4 (64).
Last year’s runners-up were simply too strong in the final quarter, TTU challenged on a number of occasions but couldn’t match the Kangaroos, who booted away on the scoreboard.
Cowwarr claims thirds cup
COWWARR claimed its first thirds premiership with a 16-point win over the minor premier Churchill.
The Saints slammed home five majors in the first quarter before a further five in the second term handed the Saints a 14-point break at the main change.
The Cougars kept within arm’s reach, however the damage by Linden Brunt in front of goal was too much to contain as Cowwarr won 19.5 (119) to 15.13 (103).
The premiership Saints received their medallions and cup from Carlton AFL premiership player Anthony Koutoufides.
