STRATFORD, Bundalaguah and Sale remain undefeated after two rounds of the Sale-Maffra twenty20 cricket division one competition.
But the highlight of Tuesday night’s round of matches came in division two with Anthony Jago smashing an unbeaten century against Stradbroke.
STRATFORD defeated Collegians at home as the clubs dusted off the Walnut Cup.
Having previously been awarded to the winner of a bi-annual end of season match at Dargo between 1996 and 2002, the Walnut Cup will now go to the winner of the twenty20 match between the clubs.
Stratford retained the cup it won in 2002.
Jack Tatterson made 49 as the Redbacks posted 7-126 from their 20 overs. Jack Goodwin took 3-15 for Collegians.
Aaron Patten took 4-27 for Stratford as the visitor fell 12 runs short with Jayden Allison scoring 36 and Ben Hurley 28.
BUNDALAGUAH was too strong for Rosedale-Kilmany.
After losing captain Matt Dowsett without scoring Nathan Massey (55) and Sam Bedgood (48) combined for a 100-run partnership for the second wicket to set-up Bundalaguah’s score of 4-153. Jason Langshaw and Winston Gieschen contributed 20 runs each.
The Bulls kept the pressure on the Warriors early before the home side was bowled out for 95 in the 19th over. Adam Cairns took 3-11 for the Bulls.
SALE defeated Maffra at home.
The Eagles made 9-85 with six batsman reaching double figures but failing to get more than 13. Ben Jones took 3-10 and Lucas Mowat 3-13.
Despite being 2-3 early, the Flying Pigs passed the Eagles’ total in the 17th over with six wickets in hand. Nicho Watt (25) and captain Ian Wriggleworth (22) batted Sale to victory, while opener Lindsay Stevens contributed 22.
AN unbeaten 67 from opener Mick Roberts helped Boisdale-Briagolong win a tight clash at home against Sale City.
The Lizards were bowled out in the final over for a competitive 115 with openers Layton Armstrong and Scott Howarth scoring 22 and 21 respectively. Jonty Landy took 3-27 for the Saints.
Roberts was the backbone of the Saints’ innings as they finished their 20 overs on 7-118.
ROUND three will be played this Tuesday night. Collegians will host Boisdale-Briagolong, Sale will head to Stratford, Sale City will host Rosedale-Kilmany, while Maffra will be at home against Bundalaguah.
IN division two, Anthony Jago hit five sixes and nine fours on his way to an unbeaten 106 to help Sale defeat Stradbroke at Stead St.
Jago dominated a 124-run partnership with captain Josh Stubbe scoring 29 not out as the Red Catts finished on 2-189.
The Stormers were bowled out in the final over for 103 with Phil Perry scoring 38.
COLLEGIANS opened its account with victory at home over Wurruk.
Mark Knowles scored 54, Nick Grainger 37 and captain Chris Malone 21 in the Collegians’ innings of 7-149.
Malone then claimed 3-11 as the Toads were restricted to 8-103.
THIS Tuesday, Stradbroke will host Collegians and Wurruk will play at Sale.
