Winning run ends

SALE’S A grade netball side had its first loss since the 2012 Gippsland League grand final, going down to Traralgon 29-23 at home on Saturday.

The Magpies went into the round one match with only two of their premiership squad, Mel Johnson and Staci Scott, in the line-up.

However, there were good signs for Sale as several newcomers look good, including goal shooter Fiona Van Der Snoek, who has played in the Women’s National Basketball League but had not played netball before. Indications are she will be an asset to the Sale attack.

Other newcomers, including Taryn Cunnigham and Tiana Hogan, played well.

Tori Dessent will be back next round and Lara Dunkley will be available when her state league duties have been completed.

Maffra’s season began with a 51-33 loss at home to a new look Moe side.

In other A grade results, Morwell defeated Wonthaggi 48-30 and Bairnsdale defeated Leongatha 42-29.

IN North Gippsland A grade netball, Heyfield unfurled its 2013 premiership flag ahead of its 65-27 win over Sale City.

In other results, TTU defeated Glengarry 35-29, Churchill defeated Cowwarr 51-40, Gormandale had a 70-33 win over Boisdale-Briagolong and Rosedale defeated Yarram 72-29.
