Rangers unable to keep up with Dodgers

DESPITE their best start to a match this season, the Sale Rangers lost to Latrobe Valley baseball champion Moe-Newborough 21-4.

The visiting Rangers scored one run in the first innings and left a runner at second, while the strong hitting Dodgers line-up only managed to get a runner to first.

In the second it was three up, three down for the Rangers and in the field they held their nerve as the Dodgers left a runner at third.

In the third, Will Hector sent one over the left field cones to give the Rangers their second run.

A double play and an in field fly kept the Dodgers scoreless.

The Rangers scored two more runs in the fourth before the Dodgers got their bats going. With five straight hits, the Dodgers piled on five runs.

The only highlight in the fifth was a two-base hit by Kieren Donoghue. With a change of pitcher it all slid down hill quite rapidly.

The Dodgers piled on eight runs in the fifth and the sixth with no reply from the Rangers.

Sale had to forfeit the B and C grade games because of a lack of players. If anyone is interested in playing, training is on Wednesday nights between 6pm and 7.30pm at Stephenson Park.

In the other A grade game, Traralgon defeated Churchill 10-2.

The competition will resume after the Queen’s Birthday long weekend with Sale hosting Churchill on June 15 and Moe-Newborough hosting Traralgon.
