FOR the second time this Gippsland Soccer League season, Sale United lost to Fortuna.
The 5-2 loss at Morwell on Sunday was the Swans’ first defeat since the end of May.
Within half an hour the Swans were trailing 3-0.
Fortuna began the scoring when Hayden Tanti ran down the wing before his cross found the back of the net. Tanti scored again 12 minutes later.
Dylan Fairbrother scored after a run down the middle.
Sale got a goal back just before half-time through Tommy Nguyen’s wellplaced shot from outside the 18 yard box.
The scoring dried up until the 85th minute when Bryson Tanti’s move through the middle was reward with a goal.
Hayden Tanti completed his hat-trick soon after before the Swans scored through a late penalty.
The loss puts the Swans seven points behind ladder leader Churchill United, whose match against Morwell Pegasus was cancelled because of inclement weather.
The match between Moe United and Tyers was also called off.
Newborough-Yallourn United drew 3-3 with Traralgon City.
Falcons defeated Traralgon Olympians 4-2 on Saturday night.
The home side looked home and hosed when leading 3-0 before Olympians responded with two goals before half-time to spark life into the contest.
In the second half, Sam Amaira scored his second goal to put the game out of Olympians’ reach.
Monash had the bye.
SALE United will against travel to Morwell on Sunday, this time to meet Pegasus.
Also on Sunday, Churchill will host Monash, Olympians will head to Moe, Traralgon City is home to Fortuna, and Newborough-Yallourn heads to Tyers.
Falcons will have the bye.
