Thrilling netball draw

HEADING into its match on top of the Gippsland League A grade netball ladder, Sale fought out a thrilling draw with fifth-placed Drouin.

In a high standard match that had the intensity of a final, the Magpies and Hawks went goal-for-goal over the four quarters, finishing locked on 41-41.

Drouin led 8-7 at the first change before Sale turned it around to take a one goal lead into the long break, 20-19.

Sale was three up at the final change and with 30 seconds remaining, Drouin goal shooter Jodie Proctor shot the goal that levelled the scores.

Sale defenders Mel Johnston, Kate Eddy and Staci Scott had a good battle with the Proctor sisters. In attack, Lara Dunkley and Fiona Vandersnoek played well while all of the mid court battles were even.

With recent wins over Morwell and Traralgon, Drouin are making a charge towards the finals.

It was the second draw of the day with Traralgon and Moe finishing level at 36-36.

Morwell moved to top spot after a 42-34 win over Bairnsdale.

Leongatha defeated Wonthaggi 42-35.

With Warragul not fielding an A grade side this season, Maffra had the bye.
