Wellington shocks Orbost

WELLINGTON caused the shock result of the round in East Gippsland open hockey, defeating Orbost 3-1.

Chris Thompson scored two goals for Wellington, while Corey Scott added one. Janeth MacKenzie scored a consolation goal for Orbost.

Swan Reach consolidated top spot with a 3-0 win over Sale 3-0. Sarah Grixti, Simon Murrell and Pete Stevens scored a goal each for the defending premier.

Bairnsdale made its hold on fourth position more secure with a 5-1 victory over Maffra.

Ricky Duncan scored two goals, while Lochlan Duncan, Jordan Gibbs and Ry Mutimer added one each. Young player Shannon Francis scored for Maffra.

SWAN Reach increased its lead on top of the women’s ladder with a 2-0 victory over Sale in a tight top of the table contest.

Sarah Whitechurch scored both goals for Swan Reach.

Third-placed Maffra had a solid 9-0 win over Bairnsdale. Maffra now trails Sale by just a point on the ladder.

Jessica Cull and Kate Steinmann scored four goals each for Maffra, while Kate Ingram scored one.

Orbost had a 5-0 win over Wellington to move into fifth spot. Narelle MacAlister scored two goals, while Misty Anderson, Janeth MacKenzie and Chloe MacKenzie scored one each.

ON Saturday, Wellington will host Maffra, Sale travels to Bairnsdale and Orbost hosts Nagle. Swan Reach will have the bye.
