Sale defeated by Churchill/Tgon

SALE finished its Eastern Zone Premier Netball Competition open match on Friday night strongly, but Churchill-Traralgon held on to win by three goals.

The young and energetic Sale was looking to build on its win from round one.

Churchill-Traralgon continued to increase its small lead over the first three quarters, however Sale came out strong in the final term, applying pressure to the also undefeated opponent.

Sale goal shooter Hayley Castle headed the resurge, shooting a perfect score of 11 from 11 with her overall shooting statistics at 88 per cent.

Young player Saskia Eenjes made her debut for Churchill-Traralgon in goal attack and didn’t take long to settle, drawing on her experience from her time with Southern Fusion in the VNL.

Sale out-scored its opposition in the final quarter, but it wasn’t enough to take the points, as Churchill-Traralgon won 46-43.

Mid Gippsland made a strong statement to defeat Bairnsdale 54-40.

IN the 17 and under competition, Sale had no answers for North Gippsland, with a consistent and disciplined game to win 54-29.

Posting 19 goals in the first quarter, North Gippsland set the pace early to leave Sale in its wake.

North Gippsland coach Traci Grogan has her team looking sleek with her only headache being the versatility and depth of player talent.

North Gippsland is looking like the team to beat, even though it had a narrow loss to Gippsland in round one.

Bairnsdale had a 37-34 victory over Mid Gippsland.

Gippsland had the bye.

IN the 15 and under matches played last week in Sale, Bairnsdale continued to stamp its authority on the competition defeating Gippsland Blue, Gippsland Red posted a narrow win over Sale Red, and Sale Black was too strong for Mid Gippsland.

THIS Friday night at Churchill, Sale’s 17 and under team will play Gippsland, while North Gippsland is favoured to defeat Mid Gippsland.

In the open division, Mid Gippsland should continue on its winning way against Sale, and Churchill-Traralgon will have its work cut out against Bairnsdale.
