Local strike organisers Grace de Keersmaeker and Anna Champion are encouraging young people to become the voices for action on climate change.

SALE and Maffra school students will be part of a youth-based climate change action group holding a street march and protest event in Sale on Friday, September 20, to raise awareness of the climate change "crisis".

The protestors, including Wellington Youth Council members, Gippsland Grammar's sustainability group and Maffra Secondary College, are pushing for Wellington Shire to declare a 'climate emergency' and have joined School Strike for Climate Australia - a national movement of young people demanding action to prevent further global warming and climate change.

A spokesperson for the Sale group, Grace De Keersmaeker, said organisers expected up to 120 people to join their local plea to politicians to take "our future's seriously and treat climate change for what it is - a crisis".
