THE 2019-20 Gippsland Festival of Racing was launched at the Sale Greyhound Racing Club on Saturday morning.
The launch featured a live broadcast of the Off The Bench radio program, presented by Craig Hutchison and Essendon football champion Tim Watson.
The Gippsland Festival of Racing will incorporate a number of key events including greyhound racing's group one Sale Cup on Boxing Day and the group two Warragul Cup on January 11. Clubs also announced football champions as their cup ambassadors, Matthew Lloyd at Sale and Jack Riewoldt at Warragul.
Greyhound Racing Victoria strategic communication general manager Louise Martin said the festival had become an important staple on Victoria's greyhound racing calendar.
"Greyhound racing is part of the fabric here in Gippsland," she said.
"The Sale Cup meeting on Boxing Day attracts thousands of racegoers every year, while the Warragul Cup series includes the club's popular Calcutta event and a spectacular family day in early January.
"The Traralgon Cup would also normally be part of the Gippsland Festival of Racing, however the track is currently undergoing a major redevelopment which will be another exciting benefit for the Gippsland region in the future."
The annual Gippsland Festival of Racing has proven to be of great benefit to the Gippsland economy, with local greyhounds racing for rich prize money and local suppliers being sourced to stage the various events.
