North Gippsland midweek bowls grand final spots for Sale White and Heyfield Kangas

SALE White and Heyfield Kangas advanced to the North Gippsland Bowls Division midweek pennant grand finals.

The semi-finals were played at Wurruk on Tuesday.

In section one, Sale White defeated Heyfield 58 shots to 52 in the major semi-final, while Maffra ended Stratford's season in the minor semi-final, winning 73-40.

Heyfield will play Maffra in the preliminary final next Tuesday at Stratford.

Heyfield Kangas won the section two major semi-final against minor premier Yarram 47-34, with Sale Blue defeating Maffra 38-35 in the minor semi. Yarram and Sale Blue will meet in the preliminary final, which will also be played at Stratford on Tuesday.

Saturday pennant

THE Saturday pennant semi-finals are scheduled for this weekend.

If rain forces play to be abandoned, Sunday is a reserve day.

Section one will be played at Maffra, with West Sale and Sale White playing the major semi-final and Heyfield and Stratford in the minor semi.

In section two at Stratford, Rosedale and West Sale will play for the first grand final spot, and Sale White will meet Sale Blue.

In section three at Rosedale, the major semi-final will be between West Sale Green and Maffra, with Sale Blue playing Heyfield Millers in the minor semi.

The preliminary finals will be played the following Saturday at Heyfield, with the grand finals seven days later at Yarram.

Region finals

THE Gippsland region bowls finals finished on Sunday at Bairnsdale.

Sale's Jan Morton, Marg Sceney and Pam Carter was joined by West Sale's Gail McKenzie in winning the women's fours, defeating Bairnsdale's Nanette Hamilton, Mary Wyndam-Smith, Marie Hack and Bev Oakley.

Maffra's Scott Manson defeated Alan Lucas from Lakes Entrance in the 60-plus men's singles.

North Gippsland's representatives went down to East Gippsland in the other three finals.

Rohan Kelly (Heyfield) went down to Brad Lancaster (Lakes Entrance) in the men's Champion of Champion singles, with Colleen Such (Paynesville) victorious in the women's over McKenzie (West Sale).

Morton lost the women's state singles to Jo Martin (Lakes Entrance), and Shane Dove (Sale) lost to Jason McLoy (Paynesville) in the men's.

North Gippsland entrants won eight of the 17 events contested, earning spots in the state finals, to be held at Bendigo in April.

NGBD fours

THE West Sale team of Kaye Thompson, Marilyn Steele, Rhonda Cook and Gail McKenzie won the North Gippsland Bowls Division women's fours championship.

The team defeated Sale's Helen Turner, Shirley Jarvis, Kris MacAlpine and Kerry Davenport 18-8 in the final last Friday at Sale.
