Yarram's health care centre nears completion

YARRAM and District Health Service's long-anticipated Integrated Health Care Centre is inching its way to completion, with an anticipated handover in late May, some months past its scheduled handover at the end of 2019.

Work on the architecturally dramatic veranda of the centre is nearing completion, and internal fitting out is being finalised, with furniture, communication and information technology equipment being installed.

When the completed building is handed over to the health service, staff from the three temporary service locations will finally be under one roof.

In its most recent report, the health service's board acknowledged there was still more work to be done in securing a stable medical workforce for the community.

The challenge of providing a workforce of doctors for the Yarram Medical Centre has been ongoing, however with the two locums currently employed indicating they wish to stay for many more months and Dr Charles Luiz conducting half-day clinics twice a month, there has been an increase in the continuity of care provided through not only Yarram Medical Centre, but also the hospital's acute ward and residential care facilities.
