BEN Lancaster has been voted in as the new president of Sale Amateur Basketball Association following last week's annual meeting.

Lancaster is a former Sale Sonics and Victoria Country player. Professionally, he is a director at DMG Financial Group.

Lancaster will be supported by vice-president Mel Johnston, secretary Rachel Lett and treasurer Julie Hutchins, who are continuing in their current roles.

Lancaster said he was looking forward to getting back into it, after many years of fond memories as a Sale player.

"Sale has always been a strong and proud Gippsland basketball club," he said.

"I'm looking forward to growing basketball participation locally and supporting the continued development of our rep players."

Sale resumed its domestic competition on Sunday, July 12 and has been successfully operating under COVID restrictions for the past two weeks.

The under eights competition will resume this Wednesday.

Operating under COVID restrictions, Sale basketball has a 15 minute gap between games and there's only one parent allowed per child.

"Despite the restrictions, there are plenty of smiles and all the players are relishing the opportunity to be back out on court playing a game they love," Lancaster said.

"There are some really great volunteers in our club and they rallied together and contacted all our players ahead of the return from COVID lockdown.

"We've ended up with increased numbers, which is quite remarkable given the circumstances, and hopefully that will set us in the right direction to keep growing our domestic and representative program.

"There are also record numbers starting under 8s this week which is a positive sign for the future."

SABA is playing a shortened season with finals to be played before the September school holidays.
