Aerobatic team tragedy remembered 50 years on

EXACTLY 50 years to the day since the RAAF’s formation flying team, the Red Sales crashed at Dutson, killing all six airmen on August 15, 1962, Sale’s community gathered to pay tribute to their service.

The community memorial service followed a private family service at East Sale RAAF Base on Wednesday morning.

Family, relatives and friends of the airmen were joined at the service presided over by Dean of Sale, The Very Reverend Dr Don Saines and RAAF Chaplain Air Commodore Royce Thompson.

Speaking before the service, Elizabeth Elsworthy, daughter of the late Flight Lieut Reg Jones, said the service was appreciated by the families as a reinforcement of the community’s grief for their loss and assisted with achieving closure from the tragedy.
