WELLINGTON Shire Council chief executive David Morcom wants ratepayers to know that the changes to the Fire Services Levy are not part of a council-based revenue raising scheme.
“The challenge for council will be how we administer this levy on behalf of the State Government without any additional cost to ratepayers,” Mr Morcom said.
“Wellington Shire Council will work with the State Government and the (Municipal Association of Victoria) to determine how the levy will be incorporated into the council’s current administrative operation.”
The State Government has said it will appoint monitors to oversee the change, and assist people with concerns during the transition.
“At this point in time we understand that the levy will appear on the annual rate notice as a fixed amount plus a variable amount based on the capital improved value of the property,” Mr Morcom said.
