I refer to David Crouch’s letter to the editor headed ‘Angst over rail’, (Gippsland Times 30/4).
I can assure Mr Crouch that the Victorian Coalition Government and V/Line are working non-stop to ensure full rail services return between Traralgon and Bairnsdale as quickly as it is safe to do so.
Work is currently being carried out to remedy the problem, including ordering a specialised track grinding machine from the Pilbara in Western Australia to enable restorative work to be carried out.
The Coalition Government has not been silent on this issue, with myself, Minister for Roads and Public Transport Terry Mulder and Premier Denis Napthine all having been quoted in this paper in recent weeks providing assurances to the communities east of Traralgon that full services will return.
The Coalition Government recognises the importance of rail to our regional and rural communities and has no plans to reduce the services available to Gippsland residents.
In fact we would like to see those expanded.
