Farmers under threat from CSG?

LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

AS Macalister Irrigation District farmers anticipate Gippsland South MLA Peter Ryan fulfilling Gippsland MHR Darren Chester’s dream of making the MID a no go zone for CSG mining, it leaves one pondering about the fate of other irrigators?

Werribee, Bacchus Marsh and Yarram farmers, will they still need to picket and bolt themselves to drilling equipment like their New South Wales and Queensland counterparts?

Laser graded farms are the last thing Mr Ryan and the state government want to pay compensation for when you consider the risk of subsidence because of ground water extraction from coal seam gas.

The Bowen and Surat Basin have experienced substantial subsidence since CSG operations began, as evidenced by the change in flood patterns during the 2010 flood.

This one is sure to get the hornets upset Mr Ryan.

All the best with that.
