THE tender for the construction of the $2,100,000 Yarram Recreation Reserve Pavilion has been awarded to RAL Constructions of Sale.
The reserve’s current pavilion, located on the southern end of the oval is to be demolished and a replacement pavilion built on the western side of the oval.
The project will also include civil works to construct an access road and car park.
Wellington Shire Council has included the project in its 2013-14 and 2014-15 capital works program with a council rates contribution of $1,400,000, a state government contribution of $650,000 and a Yarram Recreation Reserve Committee contribution of $50,000.
Cr Bob Wenger moved that council adopted the recommendations contained in its confidential tender evaluation report, for Contract 2013-041 Yarram Recreational Reserve, saying it was an exciting time for Yarram’s sports community.
“There were a number of tenderers for this project, it was really, really close and in this situation all the tenderers were suitably qualified to complete the task. But there was a budget for this project and as far as dollars go the council tries to get the best they can for what they have, and based on best value for money is the reason why we chose the (winning) tenderer,” Cr Wenger said.
Mayor Scott Rossetti expressed his delight a local firm had won the tender.
“I can say it’s RAL Constructions, who are a local firm. It’s lovely that a local firm actually succeeds in these tenders, we like to see the money stay locally for the greater local good.”
