Seaspray’s state qualifiers

TEN of Seaspray Surf Life Saving Club’s finest Nippers will compete at the state junior championships, to be held in Warrnambool next month.

The Seaspray Nippers will be 10 of 1500 entrants from 35 surf clubs, competing in numerous events across two days, including ironman, board race, surf race, beach sprint and beach flags.

Seaspray SLSC Nipper co-ordinator Rod Centra said the group had trained hard and were ready.

“Not everyone can compete at the state titles, they had to qualify at two state carnivals during the year, so these kids have been our most consistent competitors for the year,” Centra said.

“I have been involved in the Seaspray Nipper programme for the last few years and have seen enormous improvement in all these Nippers.

“Competing and training at Seaspray can be challenging due to surf conditions, so I think they are well prepared for whatever Warrnambool throws at them.

“I’m confident this group of kids will do the Seaspray surf club proud.”

The Nippers will compete in one more junior carnival, tomorrow at Lakes Entrance, to prepare them for state titles.

The state junior championships will be held at Warrnambool Surf Life Saving Club during the Labour Day weekend, on March 11 and 12.
