Offshore projects are cause for concern

Karen Vogel, Golden Beach

LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

THIS letter is in response to the article headed ‘Esso gets nod to drill deep in Bass Strait’.

It sounds like this is becoming a total takeover from the communities and people that have made the sea change to the pristine environment of the 90 Mile Beach.

So, here we are.

Fighting against PFAS, fracking, new gas projects, carbon storage projects, seismic survey testing and jack-up drill rigs.

Have I missed anything?

Pristine environment no more – these companies come in and take advantage, and there’s few people in the towns to fight against it.

It’s time for the communities of the 90 Mile Beach to reclaim and stand for their environments.

A community session run by the community advocacy group Ninety Mile Against Carbon Storage will discuss a lack of social licence for all the planned projects that are currently affecting the 90 Mile Beach as a whole.

This session will be held this Saturday, July 6, at the Lakeview Bar and Bistro, Loch Sport, from 2.30pm until 4.30pm.
