Southern Rural Water will hold another water share auction for the Macalister Irrigation Area on Wednesday, February 25.
Manager Water Supply East Terry Clapham said auctions had been held regularly for the past few years to sell off water savings created through automation works in the district.
“There is a smaller amount of water available this year from water savings that have come in earlier than expected, which is great,” he said.
“Combined with warm seasonal conditions, we think this will create high interest in the auction.
“It’s worth noting that anyone buying a high reliability water share receives the seasonal allocation, which currently stands at 100 per cent.”
A total of 261.7 ML of high reliability and low reliability shares (bundled together) and 261.8 ML of high reliability water shares (with no low reliability shares) will go under the hammer.
The auction is open to everyone, but to be able to use the allocation from the water shares, the buyer must either own a property with a water use licence in the MID, or transfer it to someone with a water use licence.
Southern Rural Water will hold information sessions for those interested on Tuesday, February 3 at the Southern Rural Water office, 88 Johnson St, Maffra, between 10am and 1pm and 6pm and 8pm. Anyone can drop in at any time between those hours and have a chat about the projects that created the savings, or the auction process.
“We strongly encourage anyone with questions about buying water at auction to drop in to one of these sessions,” Mr Claphamsaid.
“We will have information kits and registration forms available.”
The auction will take place at the Maffra Recreational Reserve at 11am on Wednesday, February 25. Bidders must register by February 24 via a registration form available from Southern Rural Water.
