Wellington residents are spoilt for choice for activities over the next few days, with no doubt many choosing to make it a Longford weekend at the annual Vintage Tractor Pull.

Member of the Sale Vintage Tractor Club, Steve Harley, said the club, as organisers, were expecting 100 or more tractors on-site, ranging in age from the 1910s to 1960s. There will also be a display of classic trucks and cars, vintage stationary engines, activities for the kids and much more for attendees of all ages to see and do.

“We have improved the way we organise the pull to ensure the action continues all day with minimal down time,” Mr Harvey said.

“We are also featuring John Deere tractors this year to commemorate 100 years since John Deere released their famous D model. So there should be a large display of John Deeres over and above what would normally be in attendance.”

The tractor pull utilises local community groups such as the CFA and kindergartens for gate duties and catering to help with their fundraising.

Mr Harvey said the pull also donates a portion of the profits to other community groups and events.

“Other profits go back in to improving the event for the future,” he said.

“This is our 39th event, we have several families within our club who have three generations involved and a lot more with two generations involved. We try our best to encourage the younger generations to preserve our history for the future.”

The 39th Vintage Tractor Pull will be held at the Longford Recreation Reserve this Sunday, March 12, from 8.30am onwards. Last year’s event pulled in hundreds of visitors.
