Sale City Band tasted success at the Latrobe Valley Eisteddfod in Traralgon on September 8.
Competing in the D grade section, the Sale band won the competition against Aberfeldie, Stonnington (both from Melbourne) and Warragul.
Bands played three contrasting pieces with the adjudicator awarding Sale first place for its performance of Poppies For Fallen Soldiers, a hymn style tribute; Road To Run, a piece in the style of the classic big band song Birdland, featuring solos from within the band; and the concert march Punchinello.
The result was greeted with cheers and fist pumps from players who worked hard and played well under first year musical director Tom Cousin.
There will be an opportunity to hear the band perform these pieces at their annual concert at The Wedge on Sunday, October 13, from 2pm.
The concert is a culmination of brass band tradition with a big band sound, local talent and vibrant themes based on the events of 2024. There are featured artists Izzie Wicks and Jonathon Kendall performing vocals and instrumental solos, backed by the full sound of the versatile 25-piece brass band.
