The North Gippsland Group of the Country Women’s Association recently held a lunch to celebrate International Day.
Group president Lois Ramsey opened the event, with the Sale Starlight branch, which meets in the evening, the organising and hostess branch.
Each year members of the CWA learn about a new country – this year it was Romania. Members researched each month to deliver a short presentation on one aspect of the country, with some branches having an international officer who does all this while other branches rotate through their members who take a turn.
Sale Starlight took out the most popular costume, voted on by attending members with blue jeans and a white tee shirt with one of the three colours of Romania – red, yellow and blue – featuring on the bands.
The idea was garnered from the Romanian team’s Olympic costume and to display the costumes they walked across performing a variety of sports.
The Maffra branch was voted as having the best decorated table with a great deal of colourful detail such as placemats, flowers, and pictures of some of the national icons of Romania.
Members were kept entertained with a three-page quiz held over the event, checking out their knowledge about different topics pertaining to Romania.
Fortunately for members, some of the answers to the quiz were read out in the introduction to the day by Sale Starlight.
Bundalaguah won the quiz and the remaining four teams came equal second.
A further question was asked, resulting in the combined Giffard and Avon team tying with Maffra for equal second place.
The North Gippsland CWA Choir, dressed appropriately in red, blue and yellow, had learned two Romanian songs for their performance. Once again it was a credit to all of them for singing in a foreign language.
