LAKES Oil has been awarded two new permits in the offshore Gippsland Basin for exploration during the next six years, concerning Seaspray residents.
The state government currently has a moratorium on fracking in place, but some Seaspray residents have raised concerns it would not prevent further exploration drilling from continuing.
Lakes Oil chairman Rob Annells said horizontal drilling from onshore to an offshore gas reserve could be a possibility, dependant on exploration results.
Seaspray resident and Lock the Gate member Julie Boulton said while unaware of Lakes Oil’s exact plans, residents were concerned by the exploration permit announcement.
