A DUTCH national missing in bushland near Buchan was found Tuesday afternoon after surviving five days and nights in the open.
Police were alerted Monday night after staff at the retreat where Veronique Biunkens had been staying found her belongings in her room.
Local police immediately began attempts to find her, launching a search of surrounding bushland early Tuesday morning.
Searchers found the woman shortly before 12.45pm Tuesday about 1.3km from where she disappeared at W Tree.
She was found next to a creek and despite having no food for five days, she survived on water from the creek bed.
Ms Biunkens also built a small shelter between two trees, from bush and bracken and covered her skin with mud to protect herself from the sun.
To stay warm at night, she stuffed her clothes with tree moss, saying it acted like a doona.
W Tree is considered a remote area and the terrain is dense and unforgiving.
