PEOPLE dressed in pink tutus and leotards are set to take over Sale Botanic Gardens Sunday week, May 8 for the annual Sale Mother’s Day Classic.
Held each year at locations around Australia, Mother’s Day Classics aim to raise money for the National Breast Cancer Foundation for research into breast cancer.
Participants can opt to do an eight kilometre run or four kilometre walk, or dress up in their finest pink outfits and show their support for others.
Sale event coordinator Jenelle Wilkes launched the Sale classic in 2014 after attending Melbourne runs for many years.
Her inspiration to participate came after the death of her mum Lynette to breast cancer in 1989.
“She was 40 when she died, I was only 13 years old,” Jenelle said.
“It’s important for me to raise awareness (of breast cancer).”
At the past two Sale events, they have raised just shy of $30,000.
“For a small community we’ve done extremely well,” she said.
People are encouraged to pre-register online by 11.59pm Wednesday, May 4, however cash entries will be available on the day from 8am.
Registration and event details are available on the website www.mothersdayclassic.com.au/event-info/regional-event-locations/victoria/sale/.
