WORLD Wide Knit in Public Day hit Sale Mall on Saturday morning, when Sale Pop Up Knitter’s Group joined forces to celebrate the creative spirit of knitting.
Despite miserable weather, organisers were determined the event was going ahead rain, hail or shine, and luckily had all manner of knitted apparel on hand to dress snugly.
Knitters spent the morning knitting wares, such as bunting and scarves, and sharing a good yarn or two with passers-by.
A pop-up knitters lounge session was then hosted at the Sale Library from 1pm until 3.30pm, where anyone new to knitting came along to learn the craft from experienced knitters, who shared their skills to inspire others.
Organiser Heather Graham began the informal knitter’s group two years ago, as a way for like minded people of all levels of knitting expertise to get together and learn different techniques.
“It’s a fantastic way for knitters to come together of all different levels, and enjoy each other’s company. It’s a bit of a social outing,” said Ms Graham.
“WWKiP Day is about showing the general public that knitting can be a community activity.”
Individual knitters bring along their respective causes, such as knitting clothing for children and the elderly in Romania, to which others can donate.
Any knitters in Sale who enjoy a free cup of tea are encouraged to attend Sale Library from 1pm to 3pm on the second Friday of the month.
Preferably no knit wits.
