Dogs enjoy day out

ANIMAL Aid’s Dogs Day Out was a success, with dogs of all shapes and sizes sniffing about in Rotary Reserve in Sale, part of Stephenson Park.

Local vets, pet supply shops and training clubs had stalls, but the main attraction was the show ring, where dogs competed for fun awards like the waggiest tail and prettiest eyes.

There were dog-friendly games, and plenty of tips for owners.

Another fun addition was the lure course, where dogs could let rip chasing a toy on a rope.

The Howling Huskies led their bush-modified wheeled sled around, delighting riders.

Animal Aid Gippsland operations manager Debby Goddard said the day was a celebration of dogs.

“We’re trying to encourage people to bring their dogs out and socialise them,” she said.

“We’ve got boarding kennels, groomers, vets — even people that make treats — and there’s also free dental checks.

“Sometimes, especially if you’re a new dog owner, it can be hard to connect with those sorts of things — that’s why we decided to do the day.”

Animal Aid’s Fulham facility is looking for volunteers, as well as donations, especially of cat food, towels, and bedding.
