Two drug drivers nabbed

TWO men in their 30s were allegedly found with drugs in their systems at the weekend.

The men were stopped by Wellington Highway Patrol police doing random oral drug testing on Friday and Saturday.

One man was allegedly detected with methamphetamine in his system in Fulham on Sunday, while the other was stopped in Sale on Friday and also allegedly registered positive for methamphetamine.

Police are waiting on laboratory tests to determine the amount of drugs found in the men’s systems.

A police spokesperson said depending on the blood levels and whether it was a first offence, those driving under the influence of drugs could face court and a loss of licence.

The police also have the power to immediately suspend a licence or learner permit in certain drug-driving offences.

The suspension lasts until the charges have been decided in court.
