Owen Townsend is missing

UPDATE: Owen has been found safe and well!

Golden Beach man Owen Townsend is missing, and his family and police continue to search for him.

The 25-year-old was last seen on Blue Water Avenue, Golden Beach at about 9.30am on Friday July 7.

Mr Townsend is described as approximately 183cm tall, medium to solid build, long dark curly hair, short facial hair and was wearing glasses.

Wellington and East Gippsland Police superintendent Mark Edwards told reporters at a media conference this morning near the Golden Beach Surf Life Saving Club that Mr Townsend’s disappearance is not being treated as suspicious.

Police and family have concerns for his welfare due to a medical condition, and his disappearance is out of character.

It is unknown what Mr Townsend was last seen wearing, but he is likely to be wearing tracksuit pants, T-shirt and a hoodie and carrying a staff-like piece of driftwood approximately six-foot tall, that is used as a walking stick.

A search of the Golden Beach area is being conducted with the support of Police Mounted Branch, SES, Public Order Response Team, Air Wing, Water Police and Parks Victoria.

Police have released an image of Mr Townsend in the hope someone may know of his current whereabouts. Anyone with infomation on his whereabouts is urged to contact Sale Police Station on (03) 5142 2200.

More to come.
