A woman has died after the motorcycle she was riding crashed into a tree on Bairnsdale-Dargo Road in Fernbank just before 2.30pm on Monday (November 20).

The 56-year-old woman from Elderslie (NSW), who was riding in a group, crashed into a tree on Bairnsdale-Dargo Road at about 2.25pm and died at the scene.

Police investigations remain ongoing, with the exact cause of the crash yet to be determined.

The incident was the second fatal collision on local roads in 24 hours.

Two hundred sixty people have died on Victorian roads so far this year, a 21 per cent increase in road fatalities from 2022, with rural and regional road fatalities accounting for more than half of all deaths.
