The Edge play at Stratford Courthouse this Saturday

Gippsland’s own award-winning Here There & Everywhere Theatre Co is returning to the Stratford Courthouse Theatre for the final show of their original play The Edge.

A compelling and thrilling story, lauded by audiences and critics across the country, the play is chillingly based on actual events which occurred at the cliffs of Green Cape NSW during the early 2000’s.

The play’s writer and director Phillip A Mayer points out “this is an amazing story centred around a series of suspected murders, that were never solved. It’s also a confronting reflection of how society pushes people to the edge of sanity and tolerance due to the expectations placed on them, at different stages of life. The edge is literal but also figurative”.

“Green Cape NSW is idyllic, beautiful, stunning and peaceful, but it holds some sinister secrets. This play takes the audience on a character-driven journey, which is emotional and disturbing, but also has some lighter moments too,” he said.

When Matthew and Kath make their annual trip for a well-earned holiday, not only do they face their own mid-life relationship demons, but also a dark event that pushes them to the edge. Twenty-something friends Sonia and Bron are on a road trip of discovery of their own, searching for identity, but also researching the tragic disappearance of several young women.

“The girls are into true crime, but it might be to their detriment,” Mr Mayer said.

“This is a highly engaging piece of theatre about a tragic series of unsolved deaths, involving several young women. Was it a crime, death by misadventure or an accident? But it’s also about reaching different stages of life, and the crisis we all face as we find out who we are as we grow older. The ensemble is first class which is why they earned so many accolades and awards while touring”.

Mr Mayer said the show is a divergence from the edgy comedy productions HT&E are usually known for.

“This is theatre with impact, and emotional story-telling, bought to life by an exceptionally dedicated and talented cast,” he said.

Powerful, topical and unmissable, this is a must-see show which won Best Production, Best Original Play, Best Director, People’s Choice, Most Outstanding New Play and multiple acting awards, plus over 10 acting nominations on the 2023 One Act Festival Circuit.
