The Giving Tree

WELLINGTON Real Estate has teamed up with A Better Life for Foster Kids this Christmas, transforming their offices into a donation point.

The offices at Sale, Stratford and Maffra now have a Christmas tree, where the public can donate gifts that go towards foster children and their families.

This is the fourth year that Wellington Real Estate has taken part, and director, Tony Kiss said he was proud the company takes part in a good cause.

“We do this on behalf of the Better Life for Foster Kids and it seems to get more support every year,” he said.

“I believe that the work we’re doing goes a long way to helping foster kids out.”

There are ‘Giving Trees’ set up all over Gippsland, and A Better Life for Foster Kids Founder, Heather Baird said the initiative had proven to be very successful.

“We have Giving Trees all over Sale and we’ve been doing it for many years now,” she said.

The initiative also donates gifts to foster families’ biological children.

“The biological children go without so much so that their parents can be foster parents,” she said.

“There’s lots of things they don’t have because their parents are foster parents and they’re sharing their mum and dad in their home.”

Ms Baird said for foster families, Christmas can be a time or dire financial trouble.

“We send out the gifts to ease the burden on the carers, as carers in Victoria are the lowest paid in Australia,” she said.

The giving tree initiative has already sent 4000 presents to foster families; a massive improvement from last year when Ms Baird estimated 5000+ gifts were sent out.

“This year we’ve easily doubled the number of gifts of any other year that we’ve ever done,” Ms Baird said.
