Time to get the kids ready for a new space adventure in Sale, with The Smeds and The Smoos on their way to The Wedge this week.

The Smeds and The Smoos is a stage adaptation (created by Tall Stories Theatre Company in London and recreated by CDP Theatre Producers with an Australian cast) of Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler’s bestselling book. The Smeds and the Smoos has also been adapted into a very popular animation which can be seen on ABC Kids.

Donaldson and Scheffler also created the much loved books The Gruffalo, The Gruffalo’s Child and Room on the Broom, all of which have also been turned into stage adaptations which CDP has toured throughout Australia.

Andrew Threlfall, a Director at CDP Theatre Producers, told the Gippsland Times the show has four cast members who play as the Smeds and the Smoos. The performers also operate a range of beautiful puppets who represent the other aliens originally described in the book on which the show is based.

“We first performed this production in December, and it’s been wonderfully received by audiences around Australia,” Mr Threlfall said.

“We’ve had wonderful feedback from children and their families, and we look forward to bringing the show to Gippsland!”

Mr Threlfall said the show offers gentle lessons about valuing difference and everyone getting along. It’s a show for children aged three and above, as well as their families and education audiences. It features text, singing, dancing, puppetry and beautiful visual effects.

“At its heart, The Smeds and The Smoos is a story about love and understanding,” he said.

“On a far-off planet, Smeds and Smoos can’t be friends. So when a young Smed and Smoo fall in love and zoom off into space together, how will their families get them back?”

Head to The Wedge website for tickets to the shows on Thursday, March 7 at 1.30pm, and Friday, March 8 at 10am and at 12pm.

Soar into space with this exciting adaptation of the award-winning book by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler (also seen in the TV animation on ABC Kids).
