POLICE are investigating yet another alleged theft in Yarram, with cash registers and tobacco taken from the local Woolworths supermarket last week.
Investigators believe an unknown offender attended the Woolworths at the Yarram Plaza Shopping Centre on James Street around 6.30am on August 13.
Once inside, the offender allegedly stole two cash registers and cigarettes. Staff were inside an office at the time, but no one was harmed. The offender fled the scene on foot in an unknown direction.
Signage outside the plaza advised that Woolworths would be closed, but surrounding businesses including a bakery and butcher would be open.
Police attended the scene and Woolworths opened after 8am.
The Gippsland Times requested an update from police, but were told last Wednesday afternoon there was nothing new to report.
“There is no update and the investigation remains ongoing,” Victoria Police said.
Police are calling for anyone who witnessed the incident, has dashcam footage, or information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or submit a confidential report online at: crimestoppersvic.com.au
This incident occurred just over a month after the high-profile robbery of the Yarram Plaza Hot Bread bakery. The two alleged offenders were arrested and charged in late July.
