Wellington Shire Council is undertaking works to upgrade Stratford Memorial Park and Sale Lions Park.
The Stratford Memorial Park playspace was identified as needing an upgrade as part of council’s playground renewal program. The upgrade will begin early next month, after the school holidays, and include the removal of outdated play equipment to make way for new equipment, as well as other improvements.
The timber fort structure will be removed and replaced with a new fort design and spinner. The rest of the existing components at Stratford Memorial Park will stay where they are positioned.
The timber swing will stay open for use during construction.
Residents can use Stratford Apex Park on Apex Park Rd as an alternative play area while works are completed.
Sale Lions Park on McLachlan St will be fully closed after the September school holidays, with security fencing to be installed around the site. The whole structure will be removed and will be replaced with one based on a new design.
Wellington Shire mayor Ian Bye said he was thrilled to see these works underway.
“We’re excited to bring these much-needed upgrades to Stratford and Sale’s play spaces. These upgrades will create a safer, more engaging environment for children and families,” he said.
“We’re confident that the new playspaces will provide a fantastic experience for everyone. These playgrounds will offer multiple activities for a range of ages and abilities.
“Both parks will allow children to learn and become more involved with the natural environment and be physically active. We have also introduced more shaded areas so that children are protected from the harsh Australian elements.
“The upgrade will help promote community connectedness and will bring families, visitors and tourists to our beautiful towns.”
There will be no access to the Sale Lions Park playspace while the installation of the new equipment and associated construction is underway. Security fencing will be installed around the construction area.
Council is encouraging families to utilise play equipment at nearby Brennan Park on Desailly St while facilities are closed throughout the construction period.
The upgrades are planned to be completed in time for the spring school holidays.
