Council vote on cairns is disappointing

LETTER TO THE EDITOR

SO, Wellington Shire Council voted against the removal of cairns and park names, which acknowledge the explorer-landholder Angus McMillan.

How very disappointing.

The shire councillors self-praise their “genuine reconciliation” issues with the local Gunaikurnai people … really?

If all our councillors were familiar with writings of historians Peter Gardner and Don Watson and the history the way the Gunaikurnai people know it, then the motion would have been passed unanimously.

Very, very disappointing.
