LUCA Neveelk claimed his second country greyhound cup on Wednesday night.
Trained at Denison by Gerry and Rose Kleeven, Luca Kleeven recorded an emphatic victory in the group two Ballarat Cup over 450 metres. The $60,000 winner’s cheque is the biggest of the Kleevens’ career.
Luca Kleeven last month won the Geelong Cup before a disappointing run in the Melbourne Cup, in which he missed the start to finish last.
The Ballarat Cup provided an emotional victory for the Kleevens, with Gerry shedding tears of joy.
“We’re just so thrilled for the dog, he deserves this,” he told the Greyhound Racing Victoria website.
Sent into the boxes as $2 favourite, Luca Neveelk had a brilliant start and never looked back. He ran an impressive 25.059 seconds on a severely rain-affected track.
Luca Neveelk has a career record of 24 wins and three placings from 30 starts and prize money of more than $200,000.
