SALE’S 17 and under team remains unbeaten after two rounds of the Eastern Regional State League netball competition.
The heat seemed to take its toll on Friday night at Churchill.
Sale pulled away from Mid Gippsland after an even first half. Sale gained early control but Mid Gippsland was right in the match until its opponent gradually surged ahead to lead 33-25 with a quarter to play before winning 40-30.
Coming off a round one loss to Sale, Alberton had a convincing 43-29 win over North Gippsland. Best-on-court Alana Hanegraff controlled the contests around the middle for Alberton, whose superior speed seemed to undo North Gippsland.
Gippsland was too strong, bringing Pakenham back to earth with a thump.
Gippsland was able to control the game with accurate shooting, taking advantage of loose and careless passing from Pakenham to win 65-40. Centre Paige Biddle was best-on-court.
East Gippsland had the bye.
IN the open division, Gippsland handed Morwell Red a 63-49 drubbing.
Jayde Travers proved a handy inclusion for Gippsland in the absence of shooter Ramayer Gourley with Morwell Red unable to keep up with its highly skilled opponent.
Morwell Navy posted its first win of the season by overcoming North Gippsland 69-41.
Defender Lexi Bowe nullified the North shooters and Rachel Allison distributed the ball well from the midcourt.
Alberton had the bye.
