CBL hat-trick for Churchill

CHURCHILL has won a hat-trick of Country Basketball League Gippsland men’s championships.

The Blue Devils overcame Moe Meteors 98-90 in the grand final at Traralgon on Saturday night, led by Jordan Canovan, who scored 43 points.

Churchill led by one point after a high scoring first quarter before extended its advantage to eight points by half-time. The Meteors fought back in the third term to bring the margin back to two points, but the Blue Devils finished with a 22-16 final term to claim the trophy.

Nick Michaelides scored 23 points for the Blue Devils, while Jack Sheedy top-scored for Moe with 34.

TRARALGON claimed consecutive women’s championships with an 84-79 win over Churchill.

Chelsea D’Angelo scored 29 points, supported by Jordan Pyle with 13.

The T-Birds built a three-point quarter-time lead before Churchill lifted to take a 39-33 lead into the main break. The T-Birds reduced the margin to five points by three-quarter-time before storming home with a 28-19 final term.

Samantha Labros top-scored for the Blue Devils with 26 points, while Tanarly Hood scored 22.
