Maffra takes on Swan Reach

MAFFRA hosted Swan Reach at the Cameron Sports Complex during round nine of East Gippslad hockey on Saturday.

Maffra took the honours in under 13 and 15 and the women’s matches, while Swan Reach took out the under 18 and open matches.

In the open game, Swan Reach consolidated top spot with a 5-0 win with goals from Matthew Cunningham, Jon Knight, Dale Murrell, David Tong and Michael Tong.

The upset of the day occurred in the women’s match, with Maffra achieving its first victory over Swan Reach in four years, winning 7-1. Swan Reach entered the match undefeated this season.

Kate Steinmann scored a hat trick and Jess Cull scored two goals, they were supported by Ainsley Butcher and Kahlia Hillbrich with one goal each. Bec Corben scored for Swan Reach.

Swan Reach won the under 18s match 10-0. Darcy and Riley Simpson scoring four goals each, Tom Edgar scored three and Daniel Bryant scored two goals.

In the under 15s, Maffra defeated Swan Reach 11-1 to also consolidate second spot.

Jess Cull scored four goals and Ben Harms three for Maffra, Adelle O’Doherty two, and Nikolas Valette and Tim Valette one each. Daniel Bryant scored for Swan Reach.

Maffra defeated Swan Reach 10-0 in the under 13s to push Nagle for top spot. Ben O’Toole scored four goals, Nikolas Valette three, Angus Neaves two and Tom Harms one.

On Saturday, Maffra will host Nagle.

After the bye last weekend, Sale will host cross-town rival Wellington at Stephenson Park.
