United reserves go down fighting

SALE United lost the Latrobe Valley Soccer League reserves grand final to Traralgon Olympians 1-0 in Morwell on Sunday.

Olympians scored its winning goal in the second half.

The season was still a success for the Swans, who won the championship after finishing the season on top of the ladder.

Olympians earlier defeated local rival Traralgon City 7-1 in the second division grand final. The victory completed a treble of trophies for the Traralgon side.

Tyers clinched the women’s premiership with a 4-0 victory over Fortuna.

The more experienced Lightning scored two goals in the first half, but despite the pressure, Fortuna did not back down and was able to create some chances in the second half. Despite some determined defending from Fortuna, Tyers managed two more goals in the second half to put the result beyond doubt.

The senior grand final between Moe United and Falcons was cancelled because of a stabbing last week involving the Falcons captain.

The grand finals were moved from Falcons’ home ground to Crinigan Street Reserve.
