Sale Cup heats on Sunday

THE heats of the Sale Cup will be held this Sunday, marking the beginning of a new era in greyhound racing.

The Sale Cup, to be held on Boxing Day, December 26, is the first of four cup meetings which will form the inaugural Gippsland Carnival.

Events at Warragul, Cranbourne and Traralgon will follow over the next three months, with the carnival offering more than $800,000 prize money.

A sprint and distance series has been created to link the four events, with a Gippsland champion sprinter and stayer crowed at the end of the carnival.

The group one Sale Cup, over 650 metres, has a $75,000 first prize, while $10,000 will go to the winner of the 440m Gippsland Carnival Sprint.

The heats of the sprint will also take place on Sunday.

The first of 12 races will leave the boxes at 5.54pm.

The carnival’s four nights will feature “Colours on Course”, with prizes going to the best dressed. Judges will be looking for the most stylish representation of the colours and patterns of all eight greyhounds at the tracks.

People who register at www.gippslandcarnival.com.au by today have the chance to win a $500 prize pack.

Families can also go in the draw to win a trip to Disneyland, by getting their “passport” stamped at two of the four cups.
